DIPLDES -
Atelier SIEGELE DARMSTADT
Year: 2020
Exhibition design
Format: one-week exhibition with vernissage & finnisage
From August 21 to 28, 2020, together with Lilian Lautenschläger, we exhibited our diploma theses, which were written in the summer semester 2020 at the Faculty of Design of the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, in the Communication Design course. The topic of the exhibition was »DiplDes« in the Atelier Siegele in Darmstadt. We designed a guidance system and an accompanying brochure for the exhibition. Besides my work »CoCB. - Community of Collecting Books. Development and design of a new, digital exhibition concept for the Collection of Book Art and Graphics of the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.« my good friend Lilian Lautenschläger showed her work »Elixir of Life - the alchemical process of transmutation promising the attainment of immortality.«
On a touchscreen I displayed my website of CoCB. and the documentation of the project with research etc. could be viewed as a book. Also a poster and a projection.
Since CoCB is an interdisciplinary project, a space will be created in the rooms of the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt a.M. that will be used only for exhibitions from the collection. When exhibiting books and graphics, however, many conservatory problems are encountered, which is why the books can only be displayed in showcases. Therefore, I have developed a concept that makes it possible both to view the original works and to leaf through the works themselves. Additionally, pedestals with "empty" books are distributed in the room. For each original there is a book without layout. The book "Attraction" from the "Encyclopedia of the Imaginary" by Lilian Lautenschläger serves as an example. With the help of a beamer, the repro images can be projected onto the empty pages. With the help of sensors, the beamer detects the position of the visitor's hand and projects a new page as he turns the page. This principle could also be experienced in the exhibition.
