In the context of a university course, we took reference together with Roger Rigorth to the exhibition »Behind the Horizon«, which he curated and imitated. »Hinter dem Horizont / Den Bogen spannen« is the title of the symposium, which took place on the occasion of the festival 100 Years Darmstadt Secession at the Oberfeld, Darmstadt. From a philosophical point of view, the horizon is a boundary line and this creates space for utopias, longings and possibilities. Secessionist Roger Rigorth, Urban Hüter and four other international artists filled this space with contemporary sculptures and land art. Our exhibition shows works by Antonia Steitz and myself, which were created within three weeks, during the symposium took place on the Oberfeld. The focus is on the examination of works by Roger Rigorth, Urban Hüter, Ryszard Litwiniuk, Strijdom van der Merve, Karin van der Molen and Urs Twellmann. In addition to the documentary works of the students, free works have been created that are based on the processes and materials of the artists.
Creating a new work from existing materials. Drawing a bridge between different people and works. Six artists are exhibiting their works in the symposium. Six Plexiglas panels, each one representing one artist. The sculptures on the upper panel are all made of different materials, with different structures and textures. The work shows a cross-section of the different materials and again forms a new coherent picture. An utopia of what is behind the horizon of the works and what could emerge new.
The artists were accompanied during the three weeks in which the works were created on the Oberfeld. The result was documentary and slightly abstract pictures. The pictures should create a feeling for the works of the six artists and give insight into their activities.
